Competitive eaters profile

An article worth checking out on competitive eaters is in The Washington Post. On Tuesday, there was a piece on the world of competitive eaters. I never knew it was a field worth scientific study. The piece is called "Down the Hatch, Then What? Set Aside the Question of Why Competitive Eaters Do What They Do. Some Want to Know How" by Ben Harder. The article leads off with Ian Hickman, 22, a recent University of Kentucky graduate. Hickman made me a little jealous because he quit his job as a clothing store manager to compete for cash and fame by downing Buffalo wings, hot dogs, watermelon and other foods. Hickman's great quote of "I just want to eat food, and impress my friends, and win money," is a testament to the enthusiasm within the sport. It looks fun because it is. He says in the first three months of competition, he figures he won a little over $1,000.
