Yes, they do say tragedy comes in threes. In this case, the tragedy is the Triple Whopper from Burger King.
So why should three be that much worse than two? After all, I've celebrated the Hamdog and Hardee's MonsterBurger.
Why does the Triple Whopper offend me more than those other (probably worse for you) sandwiches?
The other places introduced those sandwiches to make a point, a statement about the mega diet-conscious. They are way over-the-top sandwiches meant as a joke on some level.
Burger King hasn't made a big deal out of this, except the movie tie-in with "King Kong." I'm not crazy about movie tie-ins because they feel "plastic" to me.
If Burger King wanted to introduce the Triple Whopper for the sake of doing it, I would be cool. But the chain's motivation isn't there.
Those other sandwiches were making a statement. With the Triple Whopper, it slips in under the radar like it's expected. That should not be.
On its
Web site, BK refers to the "skyscraping" Triple Whopper. Yet, there is no nutrition info on this. If you have ever gone to fast-food Web sites, you will know they never put nutritional info on a "limited time only" sandwich.
So part of my "beef" is its limited run. If BK was serious about the Triple Whopper as more than a movie tie-in, the chain should step up to the plate and be proud of the sandwich.
A Triple Whopper should be a big deal on its own. So you, the consumer, should know what this burger will do to you. If Burger King won't do it, I will.
The numbers below are based on the numbers on the BK Web site for a Double Whopper with Cheese. These numbers assume the same amount of condiments, but with an extra beef patty and a slice of cheese, as noted on the BK Web site.
Which burger do you want to eat?
