How is the "weight" for the holidays?
One week until Christmas (and Hanukkah), and how is the world of temptations?
This is the hardest stretch of the year for those who try and get through without a double-digit weight gain.
Last night was a good example. I was invited out to a party. I had been with these people last year, my first holiday period under the new way of eating. I ate quite a bit that night because the food was really good and the people were extraordinarily generous in spirit.
This year would prove to be similar, except for one thing: the food was even more amazing. There was enough food in the appetizer section for a normal dinner. Then there was a salad course, soup course (more on that in a second), a fish course, a meat course, and dessert up to your eyebrows. Oh and wine, wine, wine.
The soup was two soups: a red (roasted tomato) and green (corn chowder). Somehow, they stayed side by side in the bowl. Great stuff!!
Did I exceed my allotments? Yes. Did I otherwise do pretty well? Yeah.
Then today was a brunch. I could have had the banana pecan foster French toast, but I had a nice "protein" breakfast of eggs, bacon, and red potatoes cooked with scallions, and toast. Overall, not too bad, but I need lots of exercise to handle this.
Hope your journey through the holidays is going well. Oh, and the chocolate chip cookies lay ahead. More on that later.
