Lose weight, get more sex

Even for larger people, a 10 percent weight loss can make a huge difference when it comes to a sex life. So says Duke University psychologist Martin Binks, who presented a study at a meeting of The Obesity Society in Vancouver. The physical issues are obvious, but it's good to know this study dealt with the mental and emotional problems as well. There were way more women than men in the survey (161-26) with an average body mass index of 41 (30 or above is considered obese). At the outset, 68 percent of women said they felt sexually unattractive. One year into the diet, only 26 percent did. About 63 percent originally did not want to be seen undressed, but only 34 percent felt that way a year later. Initially, 21 percent of women said they were not enjoying sex; only 11 percent said so after one year. It's a little funny, though, with the conference being in Vancouver. I was there recently and I saw very few large people. The climate there is geared toward exercise and all the fresh seafood certainly doesn't hurt. So if you need more incentive to lose the weight, think of sex.
