House tries to protect fast food joints
Yawn! The Republican-controlled House enacts another "let's protect companies from getting sued" bill, this time supporting fast-food companies. The House of Representatives voted yesterday 306-120 to approve legislation to protect fast food companies from lawsuits brought by customers who say food products made them fat.
Let's point out that the House passed a similar bill last year that was not taken up by the Senate. A spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN), said the measure won't be considered by the Senate this year.
Even though we are slamming Republicans (because they start things like this), 306 votes meant 74 Democrats voted too, provided all the Republicans voted for the bill. (Yes, there is 1 independent who would never vote for this bill.)
I don't think anything will come from the suits, but what about Congress protecting its citizens, not its companies?
