TBL2 -- September 20
Welcome to Week 2 of "The Biggest Loser II." Updates are on the weight chart. Nick has the best mark so far with 38 pounds of lost fat. Jen (the Asian girl) has a 23-pound loss mark.
The women generally lost a lot less weight than the men. Nick and Mark each lost 10 pounds; Andrea had the top loss mark with 5 pounds. Still everyone lost weight; during the first season, Matt actually gained a pound in Week 2.
There are clearly differences in the way women lose weight than men. Still, the numbers the men are putting up are really solid.
They won't let us get to learn a whole lot about these people. Kathryn got eliminated, and we hardly even knew she was there. So she isn't likely to be missed. Her throwaway line, "I didn't come here to make six best friends." So why was she here? Certainly not to make the $250,000.
Both weeks, the team that won the challenge lost the weigh-off. Go figure. Jillian tore into Nick for reasons that aren't clear to us watching on TV. There was a lot more crying all around. Mark teased Shannon during the lame "temptation." This week, it was eat something good, get to open a letter from a loved one." The ladies got to read the letters anyway because they won the challenge. Nobody ate the food; I guess they are learning a little from being on TV.
Matt tore a quad. Could that mean something next week? We have no idea. So who do I root for? I like Suzy. Ryan is another contender, though she is a bit shy. She will need to blossom at some point.
Nick is the "Dave" of Season 2. This Matt is a strong inspiration, and has experience losing weight because he was a wrestler. But the quad will probably cost him. Pete is the silent type. Seth and Mark have no discernable differences between them.
This obsession with Diet Rite Plus Zero is getting annoying. The producers somehow felt it important to get in the marketing angle. What "plus zero" means is not clear.
Hopefully, as fewer people remain, we will figure out who to root for. Right now, my money's on Caroline. (BTW, she was in great comedic form on Celebrity Poker Showdown. Her one-sentence description of "Sabrina" was hilarious and appropriate for cable.)
