Food lovers (and music lovers, too) are mourning of death of Luther Vandross. Needless to say, Vandross had been in poor health for some time, having suffered a diabetes- related stroke in his Manhattan home on April 16, 2003. His health issues included weight problems, hypertension, and the aforementioned diabetes. The cause of death has not been identified. Vandross was 54. Vandross was given credit as the creator of the Krispy Kreme bacon cheeseburger, where a split Krispy Kreme donut is used as a bun for the burger. His burger was recently profiled with Jay Leno by Chandler Goff, creator of the Hamdog. Unfortunately, Goff did not credit Vandross with the invention on TV. Musically, Vandross sold more than 25 million albums in his Grammy-winning career, including such hits as "Here and Now" and "Any Love." Post-stroke, in 2004, Vandross captured four Grammys as a sentimental favorite, including best song for the bittersweet "Dance With My Father." Many romantic interludes gave credit to Vandross' singing. His passion for music and food will be missed.
